Ok, I got it
Come Back To Texas!
~Erik Chandler~
My Interview With Erik!!
PROFILE BACKGROUND MADE BY TORI!
Hey Erik, do you think i could get an interview?

Sure! i'll try to get to it at the beginning of the week if not before. . . .

............

OK, i hope my answers make sense and give you some help...

I'm sure they will!

Ok well first things first, how did the band orginally get started?

We started in Wichita Falls, Tx in 1994. We were all in bands playing on the local scene, going to each others shows and what not. Around April ‘94 all of the bands kind of broke up around the same time and we all just started hanging out and drinking beer together. That led to some drunken “let’s play a song” and then that leads to drunken “let’s write a song”. June 4 was the first time the original 4 of us rehearsed all together, played our first show a month later and here we are almost 11 years down the road.

As i'm sure   most people know, your music and lyrics rock. How do you come up with the songs,   are they based on things that really happened in your lives?

The songs are basically exaggerations of situations that happen to us or people around us, or possibly even a simple observation about the world in general.

personally my   favorite BFS songs are "my hometown" and "boulevard" what is your favorite   bfs song?

Well, they are kind of all my favorite. Right now I would have to say “get happy” or “shut up and smile” because those are so very different than anything we have ever done before. And “friends of mine” because Jaret wrote that for all of us.

How long have   you been playing bass?

This question makes me feel old. I’ve been playing bass in some capacity for 15 years or more.

Do you have   someone who has really inspired you?

I had a jazz band instructor in high school who was, and is, an amazing bass player. He is the first person to make me want to be good at what I do. I mean not just play the bass, but be a real student of the instrument and try to develop a style and so forth.

Last month i   went to your concert at the House of Blues in chicago, and i had a blast! Has   the tour been everything you expected?

This tour is everything and more than we could have ever dreamed. First of all American Hi-Fi, Riddlin’ Kids, and MC Lars are all and have been good friends to us, so that makes it an easy touring situation. But also the show has such a great flow with all of the bands, by the time we get on stage the kids are just nuts every night and it doesn’t ever hurt your feelings when you do things like sell out the House of Blues in Chicago. We actually were having so much fun during the first 2 weeks of the tour that we extended it by 6 weeks. Leg 2 starts on the 31 of march in NYC. So we are stoked to get back on the road with those guys.

just out of   curiousity what is your favorite color?

At the moment as far as clothes would go I would have to say black or dark, dark grey. But I am also a big fan of orange.

ok lets talk   m&ms. . . plain or peanut?

It depends on the circumstance. If we are having popcorn also, or possibly potato chips, then plain. In cookies you gotta have peanut. Peanut butter cookies with peanut M&Ms. That rocks.

Do you have   any sort of motto you live by?

Be true to yourself. Don’t let the Man get you down. And don’t trust Whitey.

and lastly, do   you have any advice for people like me who want to be in a
band   someday?

Practice, practice, practice! And none of this once a week crap. At least at first. When we started we would rehearse 5 days a week for 5-6 hours at a time. I know not everyone has that much time on their hands, but you get my meaning. Also make sure you are having fun with what you do and who you do it with. We are a band of brothers, and that is what it takes to help you make it through the tough times, like when 2 of you (me and Jaret) have to live in the band van. Don’t try to play beyond your ability. Ability will come. We are still getting better. Play what you know and what you are good at. Maybe you are a guitar god, but that doesn’t matter if the drummer can’t keep up yet. And vice versa. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY HAVE FUN.
